Grandma's House Party: A celebration of sweetness, sensuality and abolition

  • Public Functionary 1500 Jackson Street Northeast Suite 144 Minneapolis, MN, 55413 United States (map)

Wear a little or a lot of purple in honor of abolition and deep healing! We centering on and loving on BLACK ELDERS AND FEMMES, and their sweetness, OKURRRR? (Bring dolla bills and flowers for our queens!)

This dance party and book event is a ritual in radical abolition. A joyous, tender, delicious and playful experience inspired by the hope and abolitionist vision of the book, Can We Please Give the Police Department to the Grandmothers? By Junauda Petrus. There will be cake, poetry, music, and creative engagement to ground in what is possible for embodied radical abolition, community care and holding ancestral wisdom. So come looking fly and ready to dance like we all free!

GRANDMA: Giving Radical Abolition Now, Dreams Magically Awaken!
That is what GRANDMA is to me when I think about my poem these days. We all can be healers and need to be healed, we all can be abolitionists and soul sweeteners.

What would it feel like to feel love and care, instead of being policed? How would it feel like to be seen and not watched? How would it feel like to be resourced and held in collective love when you are your most desperate and broken?

Intentional Space of Collective Care:
In Grandma’s House we look out for each other. We look out for the elders, the children, the caregivers and those who are always caregiving. We look out and make sure that we all are feeling safe and seen in Grandma’s house. We look out for those who seem like they struggling and for those who are always strong. We make life soft and real for each other. Everybody gonna be fed and nurtured in grandma’s house. We are each other’s constellation of love, each other other’s soft spot. In grandma’s house, we can unravel and let loose all of the ache. Mmmmmhmmm. Yes. YESSSSSS!!!!
