May Day in the Park 2023!

Two years running we've been able to hold space in the Powderhorn Park on May Day to host community sourced sound systems & bring dance music to gatherings in the park.

This year will be the same and we'll be adding to the autonomous happenings throughout the day. The music starts at Noon 12pm & finishes promptly at 6pm.

Sound by The People's Sound, The Headspace Collective, Wizhardhaus, and Technsoferatu.

:: There will be porta johns accessible outside the park community building.

:: Please respect the neighbors near the park, this event functions more as a day long pop-up and not a fest.

:: Please respect the autonomy of other events happening that may not be affiliated with "May Day in the Park." The parks are for everyone & anytime.

:: Will do a run of free zines educating around International Workers Day!

Many folks will probably meet up with the Southside Battle Train at 26th and Bloomington on May 7th between 11 a.m. and noon.

ALEBRIJES Bike Ride is going to join HERE COMES THE SUN Kids Mayday Noise Parade at PowderhornParkRec . SUNDAY MAY 7,2023 at 2pm .

Bikes line up at Waite house 12:30 pm toward Bloomington ave, connecting 28th St, E Lake ( Mercado Central) 34th St. Arrived to the parking lot of the Park with “Here comes the Sun”ride on the bike path around the lake to watch the Sun cross the lake at 3 pm.

There should be a couple thousand folks wandering the park on this day. Bring a drum (and a chair!) and join us in our traditional spot, on the southwest shore of the lake, a hundred feet up from where the Sun Flotilla lands their May Day Sun/Tree of Life puppet. We, in fact, drum those canoes across the lake (at 3:00 PM). So try to be here by that time to help make it the special event it has always been for all those who come out.

Some chairs and drums available for loan.

A RAIN OR SHINE EVENT! Plastic drums and sticks (as well as dry, tarp-covered storage) provided in case of rain.

Here comes the Sun! A kids’ noise parade in celebration of Mayday: May 7, 2023 at Powderhorn Park Rec Center at 2 PM: One of many independent community events for Mayday

Dance party to close out the parade
