African American Child Wellness Institute

The mission of AACWI is to promote the psychological and spiritual liberation of children of African Descent and their families by providing culturally specific mental health services and by developing access to culture-based, holistic wellness resources, research and practices.

AACWI specializes in providing services that address trauma and exposure to violence using evidence-based strategies within the context of an African-Centered Wellness Model.

Serving Hennepin County residents, the African American Child Wellness Institute (AACWI) is  a nonprofit organization established in 2009 by Dr. BraVada Garrett-Akinsanya as a 501 c 3 and Rule 29 mental health agency.

AACWI and Brakins Consulting provide free culturally specific emotional wellness services to children and adults who are uninsured and unable to afford co-payments or deductibles.
